I bay my first Maico 250 S 1955, an sixdays works bike for 56 years ago and
ride it for two years and then trade it to an AJS Competision,but on the Maico i
have my first fun experiens of motorcycling.
And for 3 month ago found this Maico
again, it was in bad condtion Look at the pics. I have now start to restore it like
it was in 1955. And it will be redy to ride the springtime.
I'm 73 years old and I
still ride my bike in the summertime.
I found your club on the web when I was looking
for sparepart.
And I will try to visit your club or some rally inthe summer 2011.

Beautiful pictures. And what a nice story. You found your first motorbike, bought it 56 years ago, ride it for two years, and then find it back after 54 years?!
Just this weekend I finished our Club magazine but I promise I will use your story for the next one.
It would be great if you had an old picture of yourself riding the bike in the fifties?
What bike do you ride normally in summer?

By the way, is it always in Sweden that you have a number shield on the front mud guard?

Thanks again for the beautiful pictures.
I took a close look at them and a few questions came up.
Then I tried to find the answers in one of my Maico-
I copied one page and attached it to this message.
I am a bit confused because comparing your bike with the pictures in the book I would conclude that you have the 175. And looking at the old pictures of your friend Jan and his bike I would conclude he rode the 250.
Look at the swing arm/ telescopic fork, and the rear brake at the right side of the wheel, which is typically for the 175 or 200. The 250 has the brake at the left side of the wheel.
What is not visible in the pictures for me; the 175 is common with 19" wheels, the 250 with 18". What does your bike have?
Also the ignition is slightly different; the 250 has a centrifugal ingnition adjuster, the 175 does not. Does yours have that?
There are more differences but I know that Maico build motorcycles with all parts at hand, resulting in all kinds of combinations and variations.
The restauration was done beautifully. Did you do it all by yourself? There must be some relation with what your profession was, or am I mistaking?

My Maico is an real 250cc, the 175cc was not for sale in Sweden
The frame
is similar to the 175cc and 200cc so is the frontfork and 19 inch weel. My friend Jans
motoXbike have also 19 inch weel bigger brakedrum and earlsfork and it have the same
oval frame pipe like your military bike.
The engine have centrifugal advans for the
ignigtion, cylinder diameter 67mm and stroke 70mm.
My poffesion is chief engineer
on ship and I have restore a couple of bikes
I have one Indian Scout 1928, FN 350
cc De Lux 1953, James 200 cc K7 T Trial bike 1957, 2 Moto Guzzi, 160cc 1972, 350
cc V twin 1982.
I don't sandblast and paint the Maico, I bay new stainless steel rim
and spokes of Simon Poelma in Bovenhuizen NL when I visit an friend Roden NL and
make then I respoke the rim my self.
I copy and scann one commercial leaflet of Maicos
250cc year 1954 competion motorcycles and as you can see the motocross bike have
the old and sheap telescope fork.
